What independent testing reveals
Golf Insider found TrackMan 4 more portable than expected when taking it to coaching and tournament sessions. Its practical appeal is combining a wide set of data and practice tools with a workable mobile routine. Allow room to learn the software, and check indoor space carefully if that is where it will spend most of its time.

Read the detailed findings and test limitations
The review distinguished full outdoor flight tracking from tighter indoor setups, where minimum space and high ball speed can make results more challenging. This supports checking your actual bay, rather than assuming professional equipment removes installation constraints.
The report describes the model and software available during its original test. Check the version, current software access and supplied equipment before buying; historical prices are not current purchase terms.
The 30-second verdict
The benchmark for coaches, fitters and serious studios. For home practice, the Garmin R50 or Square Golf give you most of the useful data for a fraction of the cost.
Buy it if
- You are a coach, fitter or academy
- You practise outdoors and indoors and want the reference numbers
- You will pay for the subscription and use its reports
Look elsewhere if
- You are buying for home practice (see the Garmin R50)
- Your room is under about 5 m deep
- You would rather spend the money on the room and lessons

Why it stands out
TrackMan 4 is the unit most tour players and fitters trust. Its radar tracks the full ball flight outdoors, and its reports and coaching tools are the most mature in the market.
Indoors it needs a deep room, because it sits behind you and needs space for the ball to fly. The simulator, courses and many advanced features sit behind an annual subscription, so budget for that every year. TrackMan also sells the newer ceiling-mounted TrackMan iO for home and studio bays.
Pros and cons
Owning it: warranty, returns and rules
| Left- and right-handed golfers | It sits behind the golfer, so left- and right-handers can share it without moving it. Allow the extra room depth this needs. |
|---|---|
| Balls and stickers | Normal golf balls; no stickers needed. |
| Budget beyond the box | For indoor use, budget for a hitting mat and a net or impact screen, and for any simulator software you want. See complete setup costs. |
