About Golf Gear Lab

Independent golf technology advice for real equipment decisions

Golf Gear Lab helps golfers choose GPS devices, rangefinders, launch monitors and simulator equipment with confidence. The site is built around clear explanations, practical comparisons and independent editorial judgement.

What we do

We publish reviews, guides, comparisons and real-world golf technology stories that help golfers understand what to choose, why it matters and where the compromises are.

Who we help

Golfers who want better information before spending money on technology, from first-time GPS golfers to golfers planning a full home simulator.

What we avoid

We do not exist to push products, create false urgency or recommend the most expensive option by default. Helpful equipment decisions come first.

Who is behind Golf Gear Lab?

Golf Gear Lab was founded by Graham Benjamin, who worked on navigation systems and early hand-held laser rangefinders long before either became everyday golfing equipment.

He has seen days of painstaking position-finding reduced to seconds on a GPS watch, and military laser systems that weren’t eye-safe give way to compact, eye-safe golf rangefinders. Remarkable progress—and considerably more suitable for pointing towards a busy green.

With more than 20 years playing off a single-figure handicap, Graham combines an engineer’s curiosity with a golfer’s eye for what earns its place in the bag. Golf Gear Lab helps you understand your options and choose equipment that suits your game and budget.

Golf and engineering have something else in common: both reward precision, but neither is quite as simple as the numbers suggest. A laser can tell you the flag is 147 yards away. Unfortunately, it still cannot make you hit a 147-yard shot.

Golf Gear Lab is not owned by a retailer, manufacturer or golf club. This US edition currently contains no commission links. Recommendations are based on suitability and evidence.

How we earn trust

We explain how products are assessed, why recommendations are made and what alternatives should be considered before making a decision.

Our editorial commitment

Golf Gear Lab is built to help golfers understand golf technology before they buy. We recommend products and specialist retailers based on suitability, expertise, customer experience and the decision the golfer is trying to make.

Editorial recommendations are made independently. Commercial relationships should never override the reader's best interest.

How Golf Gear Lab reaches a recommendation

Our research-led guides combine published specifications, current equipment market and retailer checks, product documentation and comparative analysis. Where controlled hands-on testing has not taken place, we say so rather than implying otherwise.

Every recommendation should answer four questions: who it suits, the main compromise, what it should be compared with, and the likely ownership costs or compatibility constraints.
